He is well known locally for his old-fashioned home production of cane syrup.  His maintaining of this annual family tradition was featured in an article in the May/June 2009 issue of Backwoods Home, a national magazine dedicated to the self-sufficient, rural lifestyle.  Roger is an active hunter, shoots regularly with Team Pro Arms in IDPA pistol competitions and spends a lot of his free time reloading his own ammunition.  Although retired from Bell South, he keeps active on his farm, as well as working part time for both Pro Arms and John’s Lawn Equipment.  Roger’s son, Jason, is also building a reputation for his quality custom-made knives, a few of which are currently on display at Pro Arms.
